Conducting

    With more than thirty leading opera roles in his singing repertoire, tenor Jonathan Hodel has also delighted audiences as the conductor. In 2015, Dr. Hodel conducted The Mikado with Empire Lyric Players in Denver, Colorado. For 2007 and 2008, he was the Associate Music Director of Asheville Lyric Opera in Asheville, North Carolina. He has appeared with Asheville Lyric Opera, Opera San Jose and Indiana University School of Music, conducting such diverse repertoire as Rossini's Barber of Seville, Verdi's La Traviata, Mozart's Don Giovianni, Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann, Strauss's Die Fledermaus, Carlisle Floyde's Susannah, Haydn's L'isola Disabitata and Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors. Between 2006-2009, he taught at Frostburg State University and was the director of the FSU Opera Workshop, conducing Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel, Menoti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Between 1999-2003, he was the assistant director of San Jose State University's Opera Workshop. Dr. Hodel studied opera conducting under Imre Pallo at Indiana University and choral conducting under William Hatcher at The University of Iowa.
